A future physician’s journey can begin with a question: Could I see myself in this specialty?Sometimes, the answer becomes clearer when students step beyond the classroom, try a clinical skill, and speak with physicians who once stood where they are now.
This October, Nth Dimensions is bringing that opportunity to Southern California with two Bioskills workshops: orthopaedics at Charles R. Drew University and dermatology at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. These events bring together practical learning, specialty exploration, and mentorship; giving aspiring physicians a closer look at what their futures could hold.
Two Days, Two Specialties
Orthopaedics — Charles R. Drew University
Saturday, October 17, 2026
10:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
1731 E. 120th Street, Los Angeles, CA
Location: Keck Auditorium.
Dermatology — Loma Linda University School of Medicine
Sunday, October 18, 2026
10:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
24760 Stewart Street, Loma Linda, CA
Location: Centennial Complex, third floor, Amphitheater 3111.
Each workshop includes a brief lecture, hands-on clinical and surgical skills training, and a physician Q&A panel. The format gives participants space to connect scientific concepts with practical skills and ask questions about training, career decisions, and life in a specialty.
Why Early Exposure Matters
It can be difficult to imagine a career you have never had the chance to explore. A workshop can make that possibility more concrete: students encounter the tools, hear the reasoning behind clinical decisions, and meet people who can help them understand the path ahead.
Nth Dimensions’ broader programming introduces students to specialties including dermatology, orthopaedic surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), pathology, and radiology. Early exposure and ongoing mentorship are central to its approach.
For students interested in dermatology, the Loma Linda workshop offers an opportunity to explore a specialty that connects skin health, clinical problem-solving, and procedural care. For those curious about orthopaedics, the Charles Drew workshop provides a chance to engage with a field focused on musculoskeletal health, movement, and function.
A Mission Built on Opportunity
Founded in 2004 by Dr. Bonnie Simpson-Mason, Nth Dimensions collaborates with academic institutions, community surgeons, and the healthcare industry to expand opportunities in orthopaedic surgery and other competitive specialties.
Its mission extends beyond a single workshop. Through resources, expertise, mentorship, and hands-on experiences, the organization helps aspiring physicians prepare to match into and complete competitive residency programs.
Physicians: Your Experience Can Open a Door
Residents, faculty, and physicians from all practice settings are welcome to contribute. Volunteers may assist at a skills station, participate in the physician Q&A panel, or support both activities.
Teaching a skill is valuable. Sharing how you navigated uncertainty, found mentors, or chose your specialty can be just as meaningful. A conversation that feels ordinary to an experienced physician may help a student take their next step with greater confidence.
Whether you are exploring a future specialty or helping someone discover theirs, these workshops offer a chance to turn curiosity into connection—and connection into opportunity.
